Browns sign RB White to four-year extension
Cleveland Browns running back Jamel White signed a four-year deal Tuesday to remain with the team.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
Acquired on waivers from the Indianapolis Colts on August 29, 2000, White has
rushed for 1,058 yards and eight touchdowns in his three seasons with the Browns.
"This deal rewards Jamel for his accomplishments on and off the field,"
Browns coach Butch Davis said. "Jamel's versatility has been a key for
our offense the last two years. It was our intention all along to work something
out with Jamel."
White played in 14 games for the Browns last season, rushing for a career-high 470 yards and three TDs on 106 carries. He also caught 63 passes, matching the second-highest total by a Browns' running back, for 452 yards. NFL Tickets
"I hope I can continue to perform well and play my entire career here," said White, who rushed for 105 yards against Pittsburgh on September 29, his second career 100-yard game. "I have a house in the area and plan to start my own business, so I'm glad that everything worked out."
