49ers: No long-term deal expected for Owens
News
The 49ers are talking to wide receiver Terrell Owens' agent, but it is unlikely
that they will sign him to a long-term deal, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.
In order to appease the salary cap, the 49ers would need to stretch a huge signing
bonus over several years and pay Owens a relatively low base salary. It's unlikely
that the two sides would be able to agree on such a deal. Owens is heading into
the last year of his contract, and he has not yet appeared at any of the team's
mini-camps. It is not believed that the 49ers are trying to trade Owens at this
point. NFL Tickets

The two sides still have a lot of time to work out a deal, but the local media
continues to suggest that any such discussions are fruitless. The most immediate
concern from a fantasy perspective is if and when Owens will join the team.
It will be interesting to see if the stud receiver shows up for training camp.
Terrell could undoubtedly appear in the ! last week and be ready to play, but
that's a scenario we'd rather not see.
