Anderson returns to Lions after stabbing
Scotty Anderson has rejoined the Detroit Lions for the final two weeks of offseason workouts after he and his brother were stabbed outside a Houston nightclub.
Anderson, a 23-year-old who is starting his third season as a Lions wide receiver, missed all of last week's minicamp with relatively minor wounds from the May 26 stabbings but still has a bandaged left shoulder.
He could not participate
in every drill Tuesday, but said he was just happy to be on the field. NFL Tickets
''I appreciate it,'' Anderson said. ''Everybody should appreciate life. You
really don't appreciate it until things like this happen. I can't explain it.''
His brother, Stevie, a former NFL wide receiver, lost a lot of blood with a severe thigh wound but has recovered to the point that his life no longer is in danger. His condition improved enough to make Scotty Anderson feel comfortable rejoining the team for the remainder of the minicamp at the Allen Park practice facility.
''It's good to have him back,'' coach Steve Mariucci said. ''We hope to get a little work out of him this week sometime.''
Mariucci said the team will examine Anderson's shoulder before deciding how much he will do.
''`Obviously, he and we were more concerned about the health of his brother and his health and his parents,'' the coach said. ''He needed to be with them. It was important for him to be there, and now it's important for him to be here, to blend back in with the rest of the team and do a little catching up.'' NFL Tickets
Christopher Lemar Robinson and Charles Edward Jones, both 30, were arrested after the stabbings and face charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
